Limerick City & County Libraries

Ireland

The City Library was originally a Carnegie library set up in 1893 and soon became the Limerick Free library. Our longest checked out book was The Stolen Cellina by Alan Thomas borrowed in November 1936 and returned in 2019-no fines applied! Limerick was Ireland’s first national City of Culture in 2014. Limerick was home to authors such as Kate O’Brien and Malachy McCourt.
