John Colapinto is a former staff writer at The New Yorker. His articles for the magazine include a story about the medical use of leeches and a Profile of the art auctioneer Tobias Meyer. Previously, he was a contributing editor at Rolling Stone, where he won a 1998 National Magazine Award for a story about a boy who underwent a sex change in infancy. He expanded the story into a book, “As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who Was Raised as a Girl,” which became a best-seller. His novel, “About the Author,” was nominated for an International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. His stories have appeared in “The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2008,” “The Best American Crime Reporting 2009,” “The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2010,” and “The Best American Science Writing 2011.”
