Bibliotecas de Lisboa

Portugal

Spaces open to all, with an active role in democratising access to culture and knowledge, and in fostering creativity, participation, and critical thinking, we are currently 17 libraries located in different areas of the city and 1 Itinerant Library. We promote reading and literacy, but also citizenship, diversity, inclusion, artistic sensitivity and the preservation of memory and heritage. We work closely with local communities on a daily basis, giving them an active role in the day-to-day life and activities of the libraries. In addition to the free loan of books and other publications and access to audiovisual content and technological media, our services include workshops, meetings, conferences, exhibitions, music, and theatre performances. We want to be cultural equipments that are close to people, open, accessible, and experienced by all. Spaces of and for people, at the service of each and every one of them.
