ABOUT
THE BOOK

To find the answer forgotten by history books, let us revisit Vasco da Gama’s life: his personality, relationships, connections to the king, hatreds, and friendships. Let us revisit his famous voyages to the Indies and rediscover a different side of this hero of the Discoveries – his darker side, marked by ambition, revenge, killings, and glories achieved through iron and fire. It is often said that history – of people and peoples alike – is dust in a gale and therefore takes many twists and turns. João Morgado has mastered the art of recreating distant historical settings and fascinating characters.

Original title in Portuguese  Índias, published by Clube do autor (2016)
