Gothenberg City Library
Gothenberg City Library/Stadsbiblioteket Göteborg

Goteborg Stadsbibliotek, Gothenburg,

Sweden

The City Library is the biggest public library in Gothenburg, it’s part of a library system that consists of 25 branch libraries over the city, and two moveable libraries (library buses), that especially targets our youngest audience and citizens living outside of the city center. The library first opened in 1967, it was closed for a significant renovation and expansion between 2012-2014, and was reopened on April 23rd 2014 – World Literature Day. The renovation kept the integrity of the old brick structure, while at the same time adding new space for a café, bigger departments for children and youths, a new stages for program activities and lots of new seating areas for studying, reading and meeting people. We are a beloved space for our citizens as well as tourists and other visitors. We’re especially proud of being the library in Sweden that offers most program activities – a spectra ranging from small book clubs to international authors the draws hundreds of people. Our patrons share this public living room with us and each other and we are proud to work here.
