Mongolian writer Lodonguin Tudev (1935-2020), the son of a herdsman named Lodon, was born in the year of the Pig and grew up on the steppe among lambs and baby camels. He enjoyed a normal childhood and spent his adult years as a schoolteacher and a leader of the Revolutionary Union of Youth from 1956 till 1986. As a child and a young adult, he was surrounded by newspapers and books, which were instrumental in his intellectual formation, and later he became the editor of various literary and political periodicals between the years 1960-1996. His first book, Hello, Kids, was published in 1955 and since that time the main theme of his books has been childhood, with children as his main characters. One of his children’s books (there are 30 volumes of selected works) Discovering the World has been published in several languages, and now for the first time in English. He has been awarded the titles of “Distinguished Cultural Worker” and “Labor Hero of Mongolia,” honors conferred on him by the President of Mongolia. In addition to being a writer, Tudev was also a journalist and an academician, holding a Ph.D. in philology from the Moscow Academy of Social Studies and the title of professor at the University of Technology and Science and the Teacher’s College in Mongolia. He was also a politician and was nominated to run for the presidency of Mongolia in 1993. He has also served as Head of the Mongolian Writers’ and Journalists’ Organization. (from Publisher)
