Juan Manuel de Prada surprised critics with his first book Cunts (1995) and the stories in The Silence of the Skater (1995). In 1996, he debuted in the novel with The Masks of the Hero, winning the Ojo Crítico Narrative Award from RNE. His international recognition came with The Tempest (1997), awarded the Planeta Prize and translated into several languages. Other successes include The Corners of the Air (2000) and The Invisible Life (2003), which received the Primavera Prize and the National Narrative Prize. His most recent work is the essay Rare Like Me (Espasa 2023). He has received prestigious literary journalism awards such as the Mariano de Cavia and Julio Camba.
