Galway Public Libraries

Ireland

Galway City and County Library Services are provided by Galway County Council on behalf of the two Galway local authorities, Galway City Council and Galway County Council. We aim to provide a public library service for the whole community. We provide access to informational, educational, cultural and recreational library materials and services in a variety of formats and technologies. We aim to be responsive to the public library needs of our community; and to uphold the public’s freedom of access to information.

The Galway Library Service consists of 29 libraries in total across the City and County. The 3 libraries in the City are purpose built, full time libraries, which the County Council operates on behalf of the City Council. There are a further 7 full time and 19 part time library facilities throughout the County, including on the Islands. A mobile library service brings books to many smaller towns and villages. There is a school’s library service which distributes books to over 200 primary schools.
