The State Library of Queensland

Australia

State Library of Queensland is part of the vibrant Cultural Centre located in South Brisbane. In 2007, our building was awarded Australia’s top prize for public architecture: the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Sir Zelman Cowen Award for Public Architecture. State Library houses 42 kilometres of collections that tell Queensland’s story. We host important cultural events including the Queensland Literary Awards which honour outstanding writers from around Australia, the Brisbane Writers Festival which connects communities to stories, and the Queensland Memory Awards which champions the researchers and storytellers who bring untold stories from our collections to life. State Library sits on the traditional meeting and gathering place of Kurilpa Point, on the banks of the Brisbane River. This has been an important site for First Nations people for millennia.
