Shanxi Provincial Library established in 1909, is one of the few century-old libraries in China. As a large comprehensive public library open to society and the public, it serves as a vital component of both Shanxi’s and the national public service system. It is also a National Key Protection Unit for Ancient Books, a Restoration Center for Ancient Texts, and a National Pilot Unit for Cultural and Creative Product Development. The library currently houses a collection of over 3.95 million volumes items. Committed to engaging with readers of all ages and backgrounds, it regularly organizes various online and offline reading activities, having served a cumulative total of 3.6093 million visitors so far. Shanxi boasts a long history, rich cultural heritage, and profound literary traditions, with a consistent focus on international literature trends and reading culture. The Taiyuan Overseas Returnees Book Club serves as an important book recommendation team for the library. We maintain close collaboration with the club, jointly organizing reading events for English books. Additionally, the club assists in selecting English titles for the library’s collection. To promote reading, the library organizes a mix of online interactions and offline exhibitions, fostering diverse connections between books and readers. We have allocated 1.5 million RMB annually in 2924 and 2025 for book acquisitions. In collaboration with private bookstores in Taiyuan, we continue to run a “You Pick, We Pay” program, allowing nearby residents to borrow books on different spots after selecting them in-store.
