Even at the age of twelve, that first lesson in the unreliability of male affections is not enough to daunt the smart plucky young girl. As she grows up, and the absurd, confusing and even wondrous vagaries of love turn her into a tangle of contradictions, she knows, deep down, there is ‘someone for everyone’ – if only she can find him.
