NOMINATING LIBRARY COMMENTS

“The Triumph of the Lions” (L’inverno dei Leoni) is a novel that offers an immersive and sensorial reading experience. With a measured and expressive style, Stefania Auci paints a vivid picture of Sicily at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, describing its beautiful places and offering a glimpse into Sicilian life and society of the time. Although it is a historical novel, it remains engaging and fluent, with well-defined characters and complex plots. The strength of the female protagonists and the gripping plot, set against the backdrop of Italian history, make this novel of great interest. The accurate historical reconstruction and the sensation of travelling through time make the reader feel part of the described era, having the impression of breathing smells, touching fabrics and listening to the Sicilian cadence. An intense and engaging novel that describes a resilient and ingenious Italy, full of passion and family history.
