Emmanuel Kariuki was born in Murang’a, Kenya to Kenyan parents. He has gone to Primary School, High school, university, worked and lived all his life in Nairobi, the capital City. He worked as a Graphics Designer for several years before teaching in an Art and Design college for eight years. During this time he started to write fiction for children. From teaching, Kariuki joined the National Museums of Kenya as an Exhibitions Developer and Designer for eleven years before retiring to concentrate on his writing. His first book for young adults, “the Salem Mystery,” won the Jomo Kenyatta Prize, adolescent category in 2003. The sequel to the Salem Mystery, entitled “the Red Coat” was nominated for the Impac Dublin Literary Award – 2010. Kariuki has seventeen books that are distributed by Kenyan Publishers.
