Kei Miller was born in 1978.  He grew up in Kingston, Jamaica with his grandfather who was a journalist. He briefly attended the University of the West Indies where he studied English. Afterward, he moved to England where he attended Manchester Metropolitan University and he received his Master of Arts in Creative Writing. Miller was the 2004 Manchester Slam Poetry Champion. Miller felt as though he was of 2 worlds in which there was “a fight between the poet who does his best work standing up, who finds his greatest eloquence on stage, and the poet who does his best work sitting down, who finds his greatest eloquence on the page”. In addition, to slam poetry, he is an avid blogger and tweeter. While in Jamaica and the United Kingdom he is an outspoken critic of homophobia. Lastly, he lives in London where he is the editor of New Caribbean Poetry: An Anthology published by the Carcanet Press and teaches creative writing at the University of Glasgow.
