City in Ruins
ABOUT
THE BOOK
Former Irish mob soldier, Danny Ryan, is now a Las Vegas casino mogul. Finally, Danny has it all: a beautiful house, a child he adores, a woman he might even fall in love with. When he tries to buy an old hotel on a prime piece of real estate, Danny triggers a war against old enemies, who vow to take everything he holds dear. To save his life and everything he loves, Danny must become the ruthless fighter he once was – and never wanted to be again.
NOMINATING LIBRARY COMMENTS
I nominate Don Winslow’s “City in Ruins” because I think it perfectly combines a rich, archetypical story about crime, morality, friendship, ambition and much more with page-turning enterainment value. The prose is beautiful and the characters appear as real as your next-door neighbor. The themes tackled are so diverse and beautifully woven together… I kept thinking about Danny Ryan, his friends and enemies way beyond the last page.
