Casualties of Truth
ABOUT
THE BOOK
Prudence Wright seems to have it all: a loving husband, a spacious home in Washington, D.C., and the former glories of a career at McKinsey, which now enables her to dedicate her days to her autistic son. But when a man from her past shows up unexpectedly at a dinner party, her long-hidden personal horrors are suddenly at risk of coming to light as she is transported back to the months she spent as a legal intern during the post-Apartheid Truth and Reconciliation hearings. Casualties of Truth explosively mines how we attempt to reconcile with unquestionable wrongs and whether we are ever able to remove the stains of our past.
NOMINATING LIBRARY COMMENTS
Casualties of Truth was one of our DC Reads titles for last year. In partnership with the PEN/Faulkner Foundation we lead community conversation about the book with Lauren Francis-Sharma celebrating her stature as a member of the DC literary community whose book touches on timely subjects of social justice and reconciliation here in the United States and in South Africa. As the PEN/Faulkner director Gwydion Suilebhan said, Lauren is a true literary citizen and we nominate Casualties of Truth to highlight her work as a writer. (DC Public Library)
